Coffee Hour Following 10:30 Service
We celebrate the incoming Presiding Bishop, and wish the outgoing Presiding Bishop Michael Curry all the best as he leaves his office as head of the Episcopal Church. We pray for his health, his spiritual life, and his family as he enters a new stage of serving God.
Have you thought about it? St. Luke's is the only Episcopal church in Newberry County. It was organized in 1846, and here's a link to some of its history.
From the outside, it looks like any number of tan stucco church common in the Episcopal community of churches. But the inside? That's a whole different matter.
St. Luke's is one of the warm, welcoming churches that takes you in and feeds your soul no matter who you are, what you wear, how you look--as Bishop Curry says, "Love is the Way."
Yes, our liturgy can be hard to follow. But in times of crisis or trouble, it's consistent: It's always there whether you join us for morning prayer the 2nd and 4th Sunday or holy Communion the 1st and 3rd Sunday. That liturgy, and our work of living out love goes back a long way.
And coffee hour? Sometimes its two or three hours. It's where we build a little community, visit, and spend time with each other.
There's so much more--just come visit and see for yourself! We'd love it
Every fall, the Episcopal Church Women of St. Luke's hold their annual bazaar. While it's true that preparations begin much earlier, figuring out who will make what, bring what, and do what.
It's a lot of work, and we have generous women who build relationships, enjoy the fellowship, work hard, and cherish the opportunity to support the programs our Bazaar helps.
Won't you join us?
(And let me tell you--ECW women can cook!).
If you know our priest, you know an animal lover. In fact, pretty much everyone at St. Luke's is an animal lover--cats, dogs, and who knows what else!
It's no surprise then that St. Luke's blesses the pets. Every year, on or about October 4, which the feat of St. Francis, we gather outside to , guardians and pets together for a blessing..
St. Luke's is blessed to have Father Slaven Manning as our shared priest.
Father Manning, a Texan, has over three decades in the Priesthood. Fr. Manning is a Nashotah House Theological Seminary graduate who was ordained a priest in 1987. During his career he has worked in IT during a Sabbatical, and he's been a bi-vocational priest until 2015, when he returned to the priesthood fulltime.
Since 2015, he has served multiple churches and we are delighted that we can participate in his shared ministry.
Fr. Manning is the priest for both St. John's, Winnsboro and St. Luke's, Newberry.
The Mission of The Order is the extension of Christ’s Kingdom through Prayer, Service and Evangelism.
According to the DOK website, "The Order of the Daughters of the King® is an order for women who are communicants of the Episcopal Church, churches in communion with it, or churches in the historic episcopate but not in communion with it. Our membership currently includes women in the Anglican, Episcopal, Lutheran (ELCA), and Roman Catholic churches."
Since 1871, the National Episcopal Church Women, ECW, have championed women’s rights and the Christian foundation of God and family. They are a ministry of the Episcopal Church and celebrate that Episcopalians believe in a loving, liberating, and life-giving God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Their women’s ministry and children’s programs feed, educate, and provide community grants around the world.
Our Vestry is elected on a rotating basis for three year terms.
